Today, Munchkin and I focused on some deep cleaning/organizing around the house. You know those stash and dash cleanings you do before company comes over? Well, maybe you don’t do that, but around here, we do. (We’re getting better though. **grin**) Somehow, half that stuff seems to stay in the closet/storage area, and it keeps building up. That’s what we were tackling today.
One by one, we brought bags of things down to the living room and went through them. We listened to music and watched movies while we worked. We still have more work to do. I’m not sure it will ever be truly done as we are packrats, but we’re making progress.
What motivated us to get this done now – the week of CHRISTmas? Honestly, we have taken time off from school, and things are pretty mellow around here this year. It was a good time to do it. Plus, if we’re able to get this tackled now, then Munchkin will have more room to play with her friend and her new toys after CHRISTmas.
After working on our task, we tackled wrapping a few presents. I also started to get things ready for making the CHRISTmas pajamas for the year. Yes, I’m a little behind on making them. As I write this, D and Munchkin are upstairs behind closed doors wrapping presents. This is pretty good for them as they are usually wrapping presents on CHRISTmas Eve.
Tasks around the house seem to go just a little bit faster when we’re listening to CHRISTmas music or watching movies. It always helps when we’re working together toward a common goal as well. Our reward will be a peaceful, clean house for CHRISTmas.

I’m with you. I always have the Christmas music on now. I enjoy it whle I can. In the office, I have Pandora playing on the computer, downstairs it’s on the radio. The boys keep going into their bedroom with their iPods to escape my singing.

I’m going to be wrapping presents today while my oldest daughter watches all the kids. I’ll be putting a table in front of the TV and watching Christmas movies the kids are tired of seeing. Today will probably be Miracle on 34th Street….possibly both of them 🙂 I need to do that deep cleaning as well and we are part of the packrat team as well.

It is nice to have time off school so the housework can get caught up. I’m do a fly lady inspired de-clutter this week and next. It feels good to get rid of some of the junk that has accumulated this year.
Enjoy your time off!
