The Spirit of CHRISTmas

Willow Tree Nativity

CHRISTmas really wouldn’t be CHRISTmas without Christ.  God the Son came to earth to be born in a stable.  His first cradle was a manger even though His step-father was an excellent carpenter.  Jesus was willing to become man for us.  Many at the time thought the Messiah would come in and conquer the Romans and free the Jews of persecution.  Instead, He entered the world in a very unassuming way.  He was on His way to giving us the ultimate CHRISTmas gift – our salvation, our eternal salvation.

While I know that the Messiah most likely wasn’t actually born when we celebrate His birth, I still thoroughly enjoy the celebration of CHRISTmas.  Having my own child has made it all the more important to make sure that we are focusing on Christ during the CHRISTmas season.  I want Munchkin to understand, as much as humanly possible, the gift that was given to us.  God welcomes us into His family when we accept His son’s precious gift.

Because that precious baby Jesus in a manger symbolizes hope, hope of a glorious eternity, we like to have various nativity scenes around the house.  The visual reminder helps us focus on Christ and the spirit of CHRISTmas, the spirit of giving.

Nativity Ornaments

While we only celebrate CHRISTmas once a year, we need to make sure that we’re living in the spirit of CHRISTmas every day of the year.

Last night, we watched a movie on gmc called Christmas with a Capital C.  It was an excellent CHRISTmas movie with a solid message.  We, as Christians, need to make sure that we’re living in the spirit of Christ and not just getting caught up in all the symbols of CHRISTmas – even if they are good ones such as nativity scenes.

Today, while I sit here and enjoy the reminders of Christ’s birth – such as the nativity scenes, I am truly thankful for Jesus – Yeshua – “the Lord saves”.  I am so thankful for the ultimate gift of eternal salvation.

  4. I feel the same way. . . the holy obligation to teach my children the true meaning of Christmas and the attitude of giving. Looking at all of your pictures, I realize that we don’t have any nativity scenes at all!!! Looks like I need to change that. LOL

  7. Wow, you are one of the few bloggers out there which recognize Yeshua wasn’t born in December. We do too. We use Christmas as an outreach to the lonely and the poor.
Yes, we must focus totally in Yeshua and his sacrifice. Where would all of us be if it wasn’t for Him? Thank you for sharing this.
