Works for Me Wednesday: Family Mail Center

Posted in Family, Homemaking, and Thoughts

Since D has been gone, I’ve been looking for different ways to encourage Munchkin and brighten her day. She has also been helping out a lot around the house when I’m feeling under the weather, so I wanted a fun way to say thank you to her. When we went to Target while on our trip, I saw this cute pink small mailbox in the dollar section (love that area!), so I picked it up. She loved it. It turns out that she liked it so much that when we returned home, she wanted to get one for me as…

Works for Me Wednesday: Backwards Edition

Posted in Homemaking, and Homeschooling

This week for works for me Wednesday, we are asking other bloggers for their help on what works for them… We’re working on learning the states & capitals this month in school. Right now, I have Munchkin learning 3 states with their capitals per day. Plus, we review what we learned the prior day. We are doing this by writing out the states with the capitals (her penmanship practice for the day). I also want to incorporate geography into this by maybe placing the states in the proper location as we learn them? As you can see, I’m not sure…

Works for Me Wednesday: Cookies

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

Yum, peanut butter cookies… Around here, we enjoy our sweets. I knew that going gluten-free may mean some changes, but I didn’t want it to have to be a horrible change. Off I went in search of some easy, yummy sweets. I stumbled across a recipe for flourless peanut butter cookies. Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies 1 Cup Peanut Butter (crunchy or creamy is fine)1 Cup Sugar1 Egg1 tsp baking powder Cream together the ingredients until smooth. Place heaping tbsps of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Allow to cool for a…

Works for Me Wednesday: Sweet Tea

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

D absolutely loves sweet tea which is funny since we grew up in the North and sweet tea just isn’t the norm. Well, move ahead a few years to when we were living in the South. D started drinking sweet tea, but I didn’t personally know how to make sweet tea. So, it was restricted to when we went out to eat or went to someone’s house that had made sweet tea. Fast forward again to when we moved to Northern Va… It was not easy to find sweet tea. And no, tea with added sweetener is NOT sweet tea.…

Works for Me Wednesday: Strawberry Picking

Posted in Homemaking

I admit it. I love strawberry picking (or berry picking period). I love going out to the field and picking those fresh, sweet berries. Of course, you have to sample of few berries as you’re picking to make sure they’re just right. I enjoy making freezer jam (though hulling and slicing all those berries isn’t the most fun activity). Last night, I made my first strawberry pies which were yummy! (I’ll post about that later). Then, there is the traditional strawberry shortcake. Yum! And don’t forget to freeze some berries for later. This year, I’ll be flash freezing sliced strawberries…
