I admit it. I love strawberry picking (or berry picking period). I love going out to the field and picking those fresh, sweet berries. Of course, you have to sample of few berries as you’re picking to make sure they’re just right.
I enjoy making freezer jam (though hulling and slicing all those berries isn’t the most fun activity). Last night, I made my first strawberry pies which were yummy! (I’ll post about that later). Then, there is the traditional strawberry shortcake. Yum! And don’t forget to freeze some berries for later. This year, I’ll be flash freezing sliced strawberries instead of whole strawberries.
If you’ve never gone strawberry picking, try to find a local strawberry place and at least pick a small bucket of strawberries. You just can’t beat the taste of fresh picked berries. If you’re not a big strawberry fan, you can pick many other types of fruits and veggies. It’s a great family outing — just make sure you where lots of sunscreen. And most importantly, have fun!!
Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some new photos posted soon. To see what’s working for others, head on over to Rocks in My Dryer.
Sounds delicious!
I just planted a strawberry patch this spring, so I am hoping to eventually be able to go strawberry picking in my backyard.
Thanks for the tip! There’s a “pick your own” place not far from us, but I’ve been too chicken to check it out. I guess I’ll have to get brave and see how it works.
