Meal Planning Organization

Posted in Homemaking

Sometimes meal planning can get tedious and difficult, but setting up a family friendly system can help make meal planning easier.  When the whole family is involved, it can make things go a little smoother, and many times, kids are more willing to eat the meals that are placed before them without complaining.  When I found out that D is going to have to go in for another back surgery, I knew that it was time to start getting serious about meal planning again.  I wanted to create a new system that would be functional, easy to use, and look…

Gluten Free Cheesy Onion Burger

Posted in Gluten Free, Homemaking, and Photography

Project 365 – #260 I hadn’t gotten anything out for dinner, and everyone was hungry.  I started digging in the freezer to see what we had available.  I was happy to find some frozen turkey burgers as they make a quick, easy meal.  While I was in the freezer, I pulled out some mixed veggies to serve with the burgers.  Frozen burgers go directly in the hot cast iron skillet while I slice up the onions and cheese. For this meal, I used a small organic red onion as we had received these in our last Bountiful Baskets order.  I…

Decorating with Bush Clippings?

Project 365 – #256 Last night was a crazy, tiring night, so I needed a little pick-me-up today.  Fresh flowers always seem to add a little light and life to a room, but I didn’t want to spend the money on purchasing flowers.  Then, I looked out my window and saw my flowering bushes that could use a bit of pruning.  I quickly grabbed my shears and headed out to trim off a few pieces of the flowering bush.  Once I brought them back inside, I made a cone out of cardboard paper to hold my new flowers.  I decided…

Project 365 – #244 Our neighbors have a Keurig which D thought was pretty nice, but he never thought it would be a good fit for him.  Then, when my Dad and stepmom starting giving rave reviews for their Keurig, he started thinking about it, a little.  His major hang up is that he drinks a good bit of coffee.  He makes a large pot in the morning and takes most of it to work with him.  He didn’t think the Keurig would fit with his normal routine.  When we were on vacation, my Dad talked about how he actually…

Shucking Corn

Posted in Homemaking, and Photography

Project 365 – #243 On Saturday, we picked up our Bountiful Baskets order which included a nice large box of corn.  We’ve enjoyed some of the fresh corn, but today, it was time to get it all shucked, boiled, and frozen to enjoy at a later date.  I had forgotten how much I really don’t care for shucking that many ears of corn at once.  There is a reason that we all had to do it as kids.  It’s because the adults didn’t really want to do it.  **wink**  It’s worth it though because we ended up with lots of…
