Our Week at a Glance

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Thoughts

Well, homeschooling activities are once again in full swing. It’s funny how we homeschool to have more freedom, but most activities still seem to revolve around the traditional school schedule. The only thing that is different is the time of day that many of the activities take place. This week, we’ll be starting up our 7 day study of weather. We’ll be continuing to work our way through the book of Luke. Munchkin will be doing her daily vocabulary word of the day as well as working on the vocabulary words that go with our weather unit. She is striving…

Mountain Lapbook

Posted in Homeschooling

On Friday, we completed our study of the mountains. We used the mountain lapbook from Hands of a Child. We assembled the lapbook today after Munchkin’s soccer practice. We used printmaster to design the cover. Munchkin decided that she wanted to use a fun folder for this lapbook. Instead of writing a lot of the information in the booklets, Munchkin decided to type out the information. Then, she cut and pasted it into the booklets. (Hands of a Child does make a type-it-in version, but we didn’t have that version on this lapbook.) One of the activities was to act…

Homeschool Memoirs: Something New

Posted in Homeschooling

THEME Planning your homeschool is a lot of fun, especially if you’re going to be trying something new. Just like finding a shiny new penny you’re excited to use it. Mother Dear has been planning some new curriculum for us, and I am plenty excited to get started on it. This week I hope you’ll share something new you’re using, why you’ve decided to use it, and if you have used it how you like it. Make sure to include the publishing information and where you got it from so others can look into if they like. We’ve pretty much continued…

Remembering September 11, 2001

Posted in Family, Holidays, Homeschooling, and Thoughts

September 11, 2001 — the world as we knew it changed. Our nation came together. We worked together, grieved together, and prayed together. Let us take a moment to remember those who lost their lives on that tragic day. Let us take a moment to celebrate the lives of the heroes that put their lives on the line to save others. Let us take a moment to pray for our country. Munchkin doesn’t remember the events of September 11th as she was too young. Today, we will spend some time reflecting and learning about the events of that day. You…

BFS – Plop, plop, Fizz, fizz; Oh, What a Relief It Is!

Posted in Family, Fun, Homeschooling, and Thoughts

Assignment: This would be a good week to tell about your worst struggles with a lifestyle of homeschooling. Tell about something you’ve struggled with and how God’s mercies gave us the strength to get past it. Also, share any curriculum/homeschool methods that have been a relief to you, i.e., a particular Teacher’s Manual or Homeschooling method that’s been easier for your family. Talk about how you felt when the burden was lifted and Oh, What a Relief it is! Homeschooling involves some sacrifices for everyone involved. It would be easier if I could go to the doctor or run errands…
