Christmas Crafts: Silent Night and Joy Signs

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

We wanted some fun signs to put up around the house, but we didn’t want to send lots of money to buy or make them.  Using cardstock and our Cricut, we were able to create these simple signs. For the Silent Night sign, we just used red cardstock for the letters and embellishments and a cream cardstock for the base. For the Joy sign, a little more creativity and work was involved.  For this one, we used a metallic blue cardstock for the lettering.  We then took a piece of tan cardstock and attached the letters to it using a…

Handmade Gifts: Wise Men Plaque

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

Munchkin and I were trying to come up with a unique gift for someone when we saw the phrase “Wise Men Still Seek Him”. We thought this would make a cool phrase to put on a plaque which would make a nice handmade CHRISTmas gift. Supplies: Plain wood plaque Black Paint Lettering (cut with Circut) Designs (cut with Cricut) Mod Podge Paint Brush Foam Brush Ribbon Tacks Directions: Lightly sand your wood plaque to remove any splinters or uneven spots.  Wipe down to remove dust. Paint the plaque black (or your desired color).  We only did one coat for ours.…

O Holy Night

Posted in Christian Life, and Holidays

O Holy Night is one of my favorite CHRISTmas songs. It doesn’t focus on CHRISTmas, but rather, it focuses on the awe and wonder of the Christ child being born.  Before the Messiah was born, there was much talk about when He would come and how He would come.  He was born simply, yet it did great things. Now, we sit here, once again, waiting for His return, His second coming.  We, once again, have the sense of anticipation and wonder as we think about how great things will be when we one day join Him in eternal paradise.  As…

Snowy Sugar Cookies

We miss snow.  What can I say?  We’re actually a family of strange people who really enjoy snow.  Now, please keep in mind that we still very much like the mild winters here as we are able to do all kinds of outdoor activities without freezing. Since we won’t be having snow any time in the near future, we decided to make some gluten free snowy sugar cookies in addition to other frosted gluten free sugar cookies.  We just used my easy gluten free drop sugar cookie recipe for this batch.  We decided to use the multi-grain flour blend instead…

Paper Mache Christmas Tree

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

Our next project was a paper mache Christmas tree.  I picked up these cardboard cones at Michaels very inexpensively after Thanksgiving.  We then cut out shapes with our Cricut in 3 different sizes – 1″, 1 1/2″, and 2″.  Munchkin chose to do triangles and I did stars. Using Mod Podge, we put on the various designs of paper shapes.  I chose to do the 2″ shape on the bottom, the 1 1/2″ on the middle, and the 1″ on the top.  Munchkin put hers on more randomly.  (Notice the black garbage bag on the table. I learned from past…
