The Spirit of CHRISTmas

Posted in Christian Life, Family, and Holidays

CHRISTmas really wouldn’t be CHRISTmas without Christ.  God the Son came to earth to be born in a stable.  His first cradle was a manger even though His step-father was an excellent carpenter.  Jesus was willing to become man for us.  Many at the time thought the Messiah would come in and conquer the Romans and free the Jews of persecution.  Instead, He entered the world in a very unassuming way.  He was on His way to giving us the ultimate CHRISTmas gift – our salvation, our eternal salvation. While I know that the Messiah most likely wasn’t actually born…

2010 Christmas Tree

Posted in Family, and Holidays

I use to be the one to decorate the tree. I had fun decorating it “just so”. Once Munchkin was old enough, she joined in on the decorating. Now, she has taken over the responsibility of decorating the tree. It’s not something that I had planned as I do enjoy it. It’s something that she enjoys so much that I allow her to have free reign on decorating the tree. After the tree is up, Munchkin starts the process of setting up the train.  Due to the location of the tree last year, she wasn’t able to set it up…

Basket of Christmas Books

Posted in Holidays, and Homeschooling

Each year, I fill up a basket with all of our Christmas books.  Every day we read a different book from our collection until all of the books are gone.  When Munchkin was younger, I would wrap up the books and number them to use as a countdown to Christmas day.  Now, Munchkin just picks a book out of the basket. I try to add new books to our collection each year by picking them up during the after Christmas sales.  Many Christian bookstores offer 50%-75% off their books after Christmas. Do you have any favorite Christmas books? This post…

Staying Happily Busy

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homeschooling

The holiday season is upon us.  For Munchkin and I that means that we set aside many of the normal schooling items and begin with the fun Christmas unit studies and activities.  It also means that we have started our Advent activities. Yesterday, Sunday, was the first day of Advent.  This year, we will be reading Bartholomew’s Passage in the evenings as a family.  On December 1st, we’ll start to add in different activities including our Advent calendar. Throughout the month of December, we’ll do various crafts and bake many goodies.  We’ll work on some handmade gifts for Christmas and…

A Day of Decorating

Posted in Family, and Holidays

Today was filled with decorating.  Munchkin decorated the tree again this year.  (Picture to be posted later.)  She did a great job again.  Several of the nativity scenes are now up, and a few more have yet to find their homes for the holidays.  Christmas music fills the air.  As per our crazy tradition, we watched Jingle All the Way while decorating.  I’m not exactly sure how this tradition started, but it did several years ago. I was able to get a few things decorated outside.  Munchkin and I worked on a fun project while we watched the football game. …
