Staying Happily Busy

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homeschooling

Bartholomew's PassageThe holiday season is upon us.  For Munchkin and I that means that we set aside many of the normal schooling items and begin with the fun Christmas unit studies and activities.  It also means that we have started our Advent activities.

Yesterday, Sunday, was the first day of Advent.  This year, we will be reading Bartholomew’s Passage in the evenings as a family.  On December 1st, we’ll start to add in different activities including our Advent calendar.

Throughout the month of December, we’ll do various crafts and bake many goodies.  We’ll work on some handmade gifts for Christmas and a few December birthdays.  Christmas cards will need to be addressed and sent out.  We hope to be able to make at least some handmade cards this year.

I’m thankful for many of the free resources and ideas online.  I’m also thankful for the Advent review books that I received this year which will help me with ideas for things to do each day.  Having all of the nativity scenes up around the house is a constant reminder of the greatest gift and the greatest reason to be thankful this season – the Christ child.

This post is part of the Gratitude Challenge.

  1. One of my homeschool friends up north just told me about this book! She said it was a sequel to “Jotham’s Journey”, and that both were excellent to read with the kiddos this time of year. So glad to hear your recommendation too! Blessings on your December!

  2. We’ve read the entire Jotham’s Journey series and have read through Jotham’s Journey twice. This year we started back through Bartholomew’s Passage. I recommend the books to everyone and wish there were more in the series. We found an excellent addition to the book was to attend a ‘Walk through Bethlehem’ that one of the churches in our area offers each year-maybe you’ll find something similar in your area.

    Blessings! 🙂
