Old Fashion Fun with a Twist

Posted in Homemaking

Cricut Personal CutterOne of the fun things about having a birthday at the end of October is that I can save that birthday money to purchase something in November during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.  This year, I decided to take advantage of an exceptional offer at JoAnn Fabrics on a Cricut personal cutter.  Munchkin didn’t know what to think of it all until she saw all of the many things that we could create – including paper dolls.

My sister had me pick up 2 paper doll cartridges for her machine while I was at JoAnn Fabrics on Friday for her Cricut machine.  When I ended up buying the smaller version for myself on Saturday, she said the Munchkin could go ahead and use the paper doll cartridges until we sent them out to her.  (We save up stuff and send out a package when a box is full or for birthdays/holidays.  It saves on shipping.)

Ever since then, Munchkin has happily been making paper dolls as well as outfits and accessories for the paper dolls.  She’s picking different cardstock and scrapbook paper patterns to create lovely dresses for the girls and fun outfits for the boys.  She can’t wait to share the fun with her friend when she gets back from her trip.  It’s been fun watching her design and make all of the paper dolls and their outfits/accessories.

Today, I am grateful for the birthday money that allowed me to purchase the Cricut, and I’m grateful for my sister allowing Munchkin to use her cartridges for a while.  I am also grateful for simple pleasures such as making paper dolls.

  1. I am with you, “small pleasures” even in the most simple things He gives us more than we deserve. I loved making my own paper dolls, and then taught my daughter how to make them, but we didn’t have the nice little machine you got on Black Friday. So happy you all can really enjoy it. What a true blessing!

  2. I remember playing with paper dolls, I loved them! I have two boys and I don’t think we’ve ever played with paper dolls (though we have tons of other fun). The cricut is a nice modern twist to paper dolls. Enjoy.

  4. You will love it. I bought the baby bug when they first came out & upgraded to the Expression a couple of years ago (black Friday deal to good to pass up). We own both paper doll cartridges and my girls make them all the time. When we first got them they made a paper doll with several outfits to include in all my neices birthday cards that year.

    Enjoy!

  5. I’ve forgotten about the simple pleasures of paperdolls and I didn’t know there were cartridges like that for Cricuts. I may have to check into that for mine.
