Horse Camp Fall 2013 – Day Two

Posted in Family

Oak tree in the desert

Day two of horse camp began with a drive through the desert to go see a large oak tree in the middle of the desert. Obviously, this is an odd, but cool site.

Oak Tree Lesson

The kids learned a bit about the oak tree and discussed how it may have gotten to the location. Then the exploring began….

JJ and Munchkin in the Boulder Tunnel

The kids were totally into climbing around all of the boulders. Munchkin and JJ decided to take a bit of a different route as they wanted to get to the other side of the big suspended rock.

They then climbed up and over and made their way down the other side. Yes, they were totally enjoying their exploration as were the other kids in the group. I think they could have stayed here all day exploring.

Looking in the Mine

Once we made our way out of the boulder area (which took some serious maneuvering in the truck plus some spotting help to avoid body damage), we headed over to another area where there was an old mine.

Mine Shaft

The kids had a blast looking down the mine shaft even if they weren’t thrilled about the trek up to the mine itself.

Hiking at the Mine

The hike back down the hill was much easier and enjoyed a lot more by the kids. 🙂

Riding through the nature park

Our day at the ranch ended with the kids riding at the Nature Park. Munchkin rode Spirit – one of the newer horses. After we left, the other kids were going to bake sugar cookie horses. Since Munchkin is gluten-free, we just skipped this part of the camp day.

Munchkin isn’t going to be attending the final day (day three) of horse camp as we have other plans for that day. Other than a few incidents, horse camp was a good experience for Munchkin.
