Fall Festival at the Ranch

Dixie and Munchkin as Medieval Knights

This month’s community outreach for the horse rescue was a fall festival where the kids could go trick-or-treating on horseback. It was a unique opportunity that was a big hit for both the regulars at the ranch as well as kids from the community.

Another fun activity was a costume contest for both people and their horses. Munchkin decided that she wanted to be Lady Carliss from the Knights of Arrethtrae book series. We had to get a little creative with the costume in order to include her horse Dixie in on the act, so the finished costume didn’t turn out exactly like Lady Carliss, but it worked. Plus, we figured it wasn’t a good idea for her to carry actual weapons like her bow and a sword. lol! Overall, we were both happy with how the horse and rider costume turned out.

She ended up winning most creative/unique costume and had an absolute blast. A lot of the kids who came wanted to sit on her horse, and she was pleased that Dixie did so well with the kids getting on and off her. Dixie will do pretty much anything for Munchkin. It really is a special relationship between those two. The only down side was Daddy had to work, so he didn’t get to see everything in person and had to settle for pictures.
