Semper Gumby

So, as I wrote yesterday, we found out on Friday that D was being deployed for a year. His package was being put together, and we were getting things in order at our end.

As I’m on the phone with our bank on Tuesday evening, D walks in and asks what I’m doing. I hold up the card, and he asks if it’s deployment related. I nod, and he tells me that he’s not going. I figure he’s doing his normal joking thing, so I smile and give him the normal “right…” look. He tells me that he’s serious, and I hang up the phone. He then informs me that he just received the call saying that they are sending someone else in his place.

Needless to say, the last few days have been completely crazy for us. I’m very thankful that he’s going to be around, and feel very blessed that we’re not going to be going through another deployment right now. Right now, we’re trying to wrap our heads around the whole thing that has taken place over the last few days. Whew!  Yep, a lot of flexibility is needed, but as a friend pointed out, this type of Semper Gumby is much easier to deal with than the original Semper Gumby that we were going through. 😉
