Camp DVD

CAMP Movie Description:

To impress a potential client, financial advisor Ken Matthews signs up to be a counselor at a camp for kids in the foster system. Paired with Eli, a 10 year-old that is determined to hate camp, Ken’s annoyance with his camper’s antics leads to Eli getting into trouble with camp director Tammie Pickens. However, when Ken discovers Eli’s dark past, his apathy turns to compassion. But how do you fix years of brokenness in just a couple of days of summer camp? Inspired by true stories of ordinary people who provide extraordinary help for abused and neglected kids, CAMP is a tale of hope shining in the dark places for forgotten children.

Our Thoughts:

CAMP is a movie based on real life campers and counselors/personnel at the Royal Family Camps for abused/neglected kids. Because it is about a camp for abused/neglected kids, some caution may want to be used by parents as there is violence against a child, drug/alcohol abuse, and a use of a few swear words. (This mainly takes place at the beginning of the movie to bring the viewer into the life of the abused child.)

At the beginning of the movie, we weren’t sure if this was going to be a good movie for us to watch as a family, but this quickly changed once camp started. It was a story of hope for the hopeless. The actors did a wonderful job in their roles. It was easy to be drawn into their world and to see the importance of this type of camp for the children. As with many volunteer opportunities, the volunteers don’t walk away unchanged either which was displayed beautifully as the story unfolded.

Hearing the real life stories during the credits and then more in-depth in the special features really pulled the film together. We had never heard of Royal Family Kids, so we enjoyed learning more about the program.
