On Monday, we decided to take a break from the desert heat and head over to Big Bear for the day. Since we hadn’t been over there yet, this was more of an exploration drive rather than a trip for a specific purpose. Of course, Daddy decided that we would take the back roads to get there which meant off-roading in his truck. The dogs even joined us on our little adventure.
The back roads were quite bumpy and narrow at points. Having another vehicle coming from the other direction took some fancy maneuvering for both parties. D loved every minute of it, and we saw some beautiful sites along the way.
Our arrival at the Big Bear Discovery Center was just in time for lunch, so we had a nice picnic lunch even with the few sprinkles that had started. After lunch, we checked out the inside of the Discovery Center. Since it’s completely pet friendly, the dogs went inside with us. Poor Wiley was on overload with all of the smells and people, but Wyatt was loving every moment of it. He made several new friends along the way. lol!
The Discovery Center was okay, but it didn’t have that much going on. Now, outdoors, it’s a completely different story as they have a wonderful area for kids and exploration in addition to the amphitheater and tons of hiking trails. I really appreciated the fact that the dogs were welcome everywhere. I hate it when dogs aren’t allowed on trails as it makes traveling with pets difficult.
We checked out a few of the other parks in the area as well as the lake before we headed back home. Our trip back home lead to another side-trip along the way to explore a large off-roading area that Daddy wants to spend a bit of time at when the summer heat dies down.
It was nice to get away from the heat and dry desert region to enjoy the gorgeous pines and lake. The rain storm was a nice bonus as it cleansed the air and smelled (and felt) good.
