Last week, D decided it would be fun if we got together with some of the Marines (and their families/friends) that he works with and head out for some off-road fun. A couple of the Marines had not taken their vehicles off-road at all, so they were eager to test out the vehicles and their skills.
On Saturday, we met up at in a parking lot, and the more experienced off-road guys helped the others check tire pressure and air down the tires as needed before we headed out. Because this was the first time out for some, a trail was chosen that could be a little challenging here and there, but it wasn’t a difficult trail that might end with serious damage to anyone’s vehicle. Now, that doesn’t mean that scrapes and scratches were to be avoided as that is part of the off-road scene.
Once we arrived at the trail, I hopped out and took a few pictures while they guys paid the state park entrance fee. Then we were on our way – sort of. We ended up stopping and checking out the water before we hit the trail. Since several of the individuals hadn’t been over the area, we thought it would be nice for them to see everything over there. We took our dogs with us, so they enjoyed being able to get out and walk here and there. A little ways up the trail, we stopped again for lunch near the water (Colorado River).
After we got through the first trail, everyone decided that they wanted to do a little more off-roading, so we set off to another trail. By this point, it was getting really hot out, so we had to stay on top of keeping hydrated. When we got to a more difficult area of the trail (I forgot to take pics here…), Munchkin and I got out with the dogs and walked which allowed me to spot a little for Daddy as he went down. Upon arrival to the bottom, Munchkin, the dogs, and I were completely parched, so we needed to cool off and hydrate before doing anything else.
Instead of taking the paved road home, it was decided that we’d take some back roads and continue the adventure. One of the guys with us goes out wheeling all the time, so he had to take one of his buddies (first time out) up and down some of the hills on the way home. We had a lot of fun on the trip, and we look forward to having more adventures in the future.
what a neat day although I do have to say your 3rd photo looks mighty scary!!
