When we headed up to Williams for the week, we stayed at the Railside RV Park. Upon arrival, I headed inside to check us in, and Munchkin took the dogs for a little walk/bathroom break. Little did we know that we were in for an unexpected surprise….
After checking us in, I went to get Munchkin only to find her looking a little flustered and covered in dirt. Apparently, the dogs gave her a bit of a tug, and she ended up doing a face plant and slide. Thankfully, she was in the grass when this happened, so she was fine. Once she explained why the dogs gave her a tug, I had to check it out for myself.
It turns out that there were grasshoppers everywhere. As you walked, the ground seemed to move with you. Occasionally, one of them would hop/fly up and hit you in the face. It was crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many grasshoppers in one location. The crazy thing was that it wasn’t in just one spot on the grounds. They were like that pretty much anywhere there was grass.
Needless to say, our dogs were loving it. You see, they like to chase crickets at home, and this was so much better (too them) than just a few crickets. Grasshoppers soon became the focus of all walks. The only time that we weren’t faced with a swarm of grasshoppers was when we were walking on the gravel or early in the morning when it was still too cool for them to be really active.
Our dogs were transformed from ordinary dogs into grasshopper hunters. Wyatt would stalk the grasshoppers. He would hop and bounce around playing in the grasshoppers. He would snag them out of mid-jump and eat them. When he would get a particularly big one, he would bat it around with his paws for a little while before he ate it.
More than once a funny face was made by the dogs as they bit into the grasshoppers, yet, they continued to want to capture and eat the fast-moving critters.
It was quite entertaining to watch the antics of our pups during this trip. They had a blast. I can only imagine how crazy they would have been if they were off-leash during this whole experience. They were sad to leave the grasshoppers behind when we left.
More from this trip:

It was definitely a crazy thing to experience. I guess it’s a good thing that we’re not creeped out by bugs. lol!
