Cactus on Hill at Dusk

One of the things that Munchkin wanted to do for her birthday was go to the zoo or the aquarium. To do this, we could either head over to the San Diego area or over to the Phoenix area. We wanted to take a long weekend trip instead of just heading over for the day. Because we really enjoy camping at Cave Creek Regional Campground, we chose to head over to the Phoenix area from Thursday to Sunday.

Bunny resting

The trip had a bit of a rocky start as I got hit with a migraine on Wednesday evening after we finished with Munchkin’s birthday festivities. I was extremely thankful that I was able to pull everything off for her birthday before the migraine hit full force. Due to the migraine, I got zero packing done that evening. Ugh!

Bunny

The next morning, I had to move cautiously as I was still feeling horrible and knew that I could be right back where I started if I was not careful. Munchkin stepped up and took over my normal job of loading up the 5th wheel for our camping trip. Between D’s back and my head, the campground was a welcome sight. We quickly set up camp and settled in for a relaxing evening.

Cottontail Rabbit

Normally, when we camp here, the temps are soaring, so it was nice to be here when the mornings and evenings were still mellow. The bunnies, who normally chew holes in our hose, were abundant and apparently not parched as they left our hose in tact this time around. The pups were fascinated by the bunnies hopping all around the campground.

Rattlesnake

The first evening we were at the campground, Munchkin and I took the pups for their evening walk. As we were walking back to the campsite, we saw a large rattlesnake crossing the road. We were surprised and oddly excited as we carefully made our way around him with the dogs. (We had been warned by the campground host that the snakes were out, so we were keeping an eye out. Flashlights were our friends when it came to late night potty breaks for the pups.)

Bunny Relaxing

The next day, we headed over to the zoo in the morning. (I’ll share more about that adventure in another post.) Since the temps were rising, we knew that getting there early was the best bet. After enjoying a nice lunch back at the campground, we took a quick trip over to the outlet mall as we were hoping to pick up a few needed items for Munchkin. I was thrilled that we were able to score a nice pair of hiking boots for Munchkin for 70% of the clearance price, and she was excited that they were super light weight. She liked them so much that they became her footwear of choice for the rest of the trip. **grin**

Wiley and Wyatt at Campsite

On Saturday, we did a little exploring, but Munchkin started to feel under the weather. We ended up relaxing for the rest of the day. Daddy and Munchkin assembled a new Lego Star Wars set while watching Star Wars while I rested a bit. (I fought on and off with my migraine most of the weekend. Thankfully, I was able to keep it at bay with rest and caffeine.) Sunday morning found us leisurely packing up and heading back home. It was a good weekend that was over all too soon…

    • Munchkin’s been growing again, so finding boots at such a great price was definitely a blessing.

  1. I agree with Jen… I’m glad you were excited to see snake. I think I would have FREAKED out! Looks like a lovely camping trip, snake notwithstanding!

    • If we had been startled by the snake, it would have been a different reaction all together. lol! As it was, the snake was peaceful and calm which allowed us to just admire it’s beauty. And yes, snakes can be beautiful. 😉
