Zion came to the rescue with Dixie (Munchkin’s foster horse) and Gypsy. He had some health issues, but we didn’t realize how bad until today.
Zion pretty much become my horse since he came into the rescue that day a little over two weeks ago. We really bonded as I took care of him. I was even able to ride him on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, on Wednesday, he took a turn for the worse. Today, Thursday, we took him to the vet. He had choke caused by a tumor in his throat. Sadly, this tumor meant that he could no longer eat or drink, so I had to say goodbye to my horse. 🙁
He was so insistent on being right next to me that this is the only shot I could get of him. I wish I would have taken on picture on Tuesday when he was so happy and full of life. At least my sweet boy is no longer suffering.
Working at a horse rescue is quite rewarding, but days like today are really hard. For now, we’ll just rejoice that Munchkin’s sweet Dixie is recovering well from her leg tumor removal that took place on Tuesday.
It is so hard to loose a friend like that. I totally understand what your feeling. I get very attached to my horses and consider them a part of my family. My 8yr. old daughter shares my love of horses and is very attached to them just like me. Praying God will comfort you and ease the pain of the loss of a dear friend.
Thanks Jenny, I really appreciate the kind words. Right now, I’m rather in shock as he went downhill so fast. I’m sure it’s going to hit me harder tomorrow when I head to the ranch, and he’s not there. He was such a HUGE part of my daily routine there….
