Today was Munchkin’s first day at the therapeutic horse stables. Daddy woke her up when he got up this morning and dropped her off before he headed to work. She was rather tired as she’s a night owl like her mama, so she’s working on getting her body to adjust to this new schedule. She’s going to start off with a couple of hours (or so) a day two days a week until she sees how she does at the job, chores, and balancing school work.
It was a training day, so she started to learn the basics of working at the stables which means her day started early with watering the horses and other animals. She also learned how to properly muck the stalls.
After taking a break (this is when I arrived to pick her up), she quickly saw how to spray fly repellent on the horses. Then, it was on to learning how to properly groom a horse. The owner decided that she would start Munchkin on one of the miniature horses.
Needless to say, after 2 1/2 hours of work (and an early wake-up), she was rather exhausted, but she’s looking forward to tomorrow and learning more skills while practicing the ones that she learned today. She said that this was definitely a good type of tired. **grin**
Later, she’ll learn how to help with the special needs therapy sessions. She’ll be helping lead the horses around the ring while someone else walks beside the rider. The owner will determine when she’s ready to take on some of these tasks. She may even get to help out next week when the therapy sessions with kids from locals school start back up.
