Late Night Conversations

Munchkin

Project 365 – #074

Have you ever noticed how kids seem to have some of the most complicated, in-depth conversations late at night?  Last night, we tucked Munchkin into bed, but I could tell that she had a lot on her mind.  Her thoughts were racing, and she was trying to get them organized and settled as she was tired.  D turned off the lights and headed back to our room.

I was working on getting some of our homeschooling projects organized when I saw Munchkin’s long, slender fingers slowly push the door to our room open. She peaked inside and waited.  Motioning her in, I knew this wasn’t going to be a quick conversation or a “we’ll talk about it in the morning” evening.  She had some serious questions that she needed addressed before she would be able to settle in for the night.

At first, it was just Munchkin and I quietly talking as Daddy was dozing off.  Soon, Daddy stirred and joined in on the conversation.  We discussed the issues, gave Munchkin some guidance, and sent her off to delve into her study.  A few minutes later, I wandered over to her room to see how she was doing.  I found her sitting on her bed with a notebook and pencil in hand while she studied the opened Bible beside her.

Bible and Notebook

I once again showed her how to use her study Bible to its fullest, so she could really get into her study of the scriptures.  She asked me a few more questions before jumping back into her work.  She was driven to find answers to her questions.  She prayed that the Lord would help her find the answers to her questions as she studied His Word.  A fire had been lit, and now, she sought the truth.

As I turned off my light to go to sleep, I noticed that her light was still shining.  I thought about going and telling her that she needed to go to sleep, but something inside of me knew that I should just let her go.  This morning, she informed me that she was up until 2:00 am studying the scriptures and taking notes.  She felt more at peace, but she has so much more to study and learn.

I have no doubt that those many questions currently filling her mind will lead to more late night conversations and studies….

  5. What a great testimony to have, you are raising a daughter who not only feels comfortable talking to you, she recognizes that you don’t have all of the answers. None of us do, only our Heavenly Father has the answers we are seeking. She is an amazing girl.
