Handmade Gifts: Prayer Journal

Posted in Homemaking

My new Cricut has inspired me to start working on my handmade Christmas gifts.  The first project of the year is a prayer journal.  It’s pretty simple, but it makes a nice gift.

Prayer Journal

Supplies:

  • 2 pieces of matching scrapbook paper
  • 1 piece of coordinating paper for letters
  • 2 pieces of coordinating paper for inside of notebook
  • adhesive
  • favorite verses about prayer
  • composition notebook
  • crafting scissors

Prayer Journal Verses

Process:

  1. You’ll need 2 matching scrapbook pieces of paper for the front and the back of the composition notebook.  To get the correct size, you’ll just trace the shape of the composition notebook onto the scrapbook paper.
  2. Using your favorite adhesive (I used spray adhesive), attach the scrapbook paper to the front and back of the composition notebook.
  3. Either cut out letters with your Cricut (I used 2 types of paper for my letters using the regular font and the solid shadow font to create my lettering.) or hand cut the letters.
  4. Glue those letters onto the front of the notebook.
  5. Print your favorite verses onto the colored paper.  (You’ll need to pieces of paper. Pick 2 different verses/passages.)
  6. Cut out paper with crafting scissors (or regular scissors).
  7. Using your favorite adhesive (once again, I used spray adhesive), attach the verses – one to the front inside cover and one to the back inside cover.
  8. You can make a coordinating bookmark to go with the prayer journal using some of the leftover scrapbook paper.  I plan on laminating my bookmarks for durability.

Prayer Journal Bookmarks

A prayer journal is great for keeping track of prayer requests and praises.  It’s nice to be able to look back on the months/years to see how God has been working in your life and that of friends and family.

  1. Oh, that’s so much prettier than the spiral notebook I keep by my computer, and the scratch pad by my phone! And the quote from Philippians is one of my favorites. Just beautiful. You always have such wonderful ideas.
