A Productive Pre-Thanksgiving Day

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homemaking

As the day winds down, I am grateful that we had a very productive day.  I was actually able to eat a little today, so that is definitely something to be thankful for.  I was able to get most of the meal ready for tomorrow.  The turkeys are in the brine, so they’ll be ready for the oven in the morning.  I’m also thankful that Munchkin offered to help again by making delicious gluten free sweet potato muffins. The only thing I didn’t get done on my to do list was making whoopie pies.  A little road trip to the…

Gearing up for Thanksgiving

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homemaking

Our Thanksgiving preparations actually begin way back in October.  You see, we decorate for harvest starting on October 1st.  When the 1st of November arrives, we start to add in some Thanksgiving specific decorations.  The beginning of November also means that we’ll be doing some sort of a thankful craft.  This year, we did the Gratitude Tree.  Last year, we did the Giving Thanks Turkey craft.  Whatever craft we do, the purpose is to remind us to remain thankful during the month. Thanksgiving Traditions Remembered

Food, Family, and Football As I was looking for the Pretty, Pretty Princess picture of big T, I had the opportunity to look over many pictures from the past.  It got me thinking about past Thanksgiving traditions. We’d also head up to the mountain.  Sometimes, just the…

We Give Thanks

We Give Thanks by J. Bennett We give thanks to thee for the golden day for the song of the river for the whisper of the trees for the mountains watching over the sea and for the blue blanket of the heavenly sky. We give thanks to thee for each breath that we sigh for the beating of the drum deep inside for the blessing of each precious day and most of all we give thanks for thy gracious love. I thought this Celtic Thanksgiving song was beautiful and wanted to share it today as we get ready for Thanksgiving…

A Working Stove and Oven

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

I had always taken a working stove/oven for granted until we started renting a house where the oven was completely unreliable and the burners on the stove didn’t work quite right.  Then, D blessed me at our previous house with a very nice stove/oven, and I realized, once again, how nice it was to have a quality, working appliance. In this house, I have a nice gas stove/oven that works.  While it may not be as nice as the one at our last house, it keeps an even, consistent temperature in the oven and all of the burners work well. …
