Modified Square Foot Garden

Project 365 – #111 Since we’re going to be home on a regular basis for the spring/summer this year, Munchkin and I decided that we would go ahead and plant a garden.  We knew that it would need to be a raised bed garden due to the soil conditions, so on Tuesday we headed over to Lowes to pick up some lumber, soil, and plants.  Once we arrived home, we started the project. On Wednesday morning, I decided to complete the project in the morning as I knew that we’d be headed to D’s pre-operation appointment in the afternoon.  We…

Decorating with Less: Master Bedroom

Posted in Family, and Homemaking

One of the crazy things with being in the military is that you never know what type/size of house you will be in next.  What works at one house won’t necessarily work at the next house.  You end up with various decorations, pictures, curtains, and what not that worked in the old house but didn’t work in the new.  You’re always looking for inexpensive ways to make your house look like your home. We’re still working on making our house look like home.  I had purchased some wall saying decals at the dollar store about a month ago.  One of…

Holiday Preparations

I love this time of year.  Normally, I’m seeing beautiful trees painted in glorious colors.  As the air gets cooler, we know it’s time to head to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard. This year is a little different.  We’re not watching the fall colors.  We’re not picking pumpkins or apples.  Instead, we’re watching citrus fruit being harvested.  In fact, D brought me home a huge bag of grapefruit just this week.  It’s all a little odd for someone from the East Coast that is use to regular seasons. Even though things are different than years past, we are still…

Making Something Old New

Munchkin and I wanted seat cushions for our outdoor furniture, but we can’t afford to just go out and buy some new ones. I had found outdoor fabric for a really, really good price on clearance shortly after we arrived here. All I needed was some cushions. At first, I looked at the foam at the fabric store, but it was too expensive. I decided to head down to the thrift store to see what they had available. I was able to purchase these cushions and pillows very, very inexpensively. I decided that I didn’t want to spend a lot…

Painting, Painting, and More Painting…

Posted in Homemaking, and Thoughts

Over the weekend, we went and visited family in North Carolina. Munchkin enjoyed playing with her cousins and her Grandma for a few days. We know that once we move these times will be far less frequent. We’ve been taking advantage of these opportunities as much as possible. We arrived home on Tuesday and received some news about the sale of our house (not good). I had planned on getting the trailer organized this week, and getting back to a more normal schedule with Munchkin’s schooling. The news changed all of that. To make a long story short, I had…
