To Michigan and Back Again

Posted in Family, and Holidays

As I stated yesterday, we planned to begin our journey to Michigan with a stopover at the cabin. When the cabin flooded, family members were concerned that it would change our plans to head up there for Christmas, but we knew that we wanted/needed to be there. All D’s siblings were going to be there as well as my family. Even D’s great grandma was joining the family for Christmas this year. It just isn’t something that happens that often. We had carefully coordinated to make sure that there was at least one day when everyone would be together. Yes,…

Early Christmas at the Cabin

Posted in Family, and Holidays

Instead of heading straight up to Michigan for Christmas, we stopped by the cabin. We needed to check in on the progress (or lack thereof as it turned out) of the work, and it was a better starting point for the trip. Munchkin didn’t know it, but Daddy and I thought it would be fun to surprise her by celebrating Christmas at the cabin. Since we were giving her a Kindle and a keyboard case for her tablet for Christmas, we thought it would be nice to give them to her for the trip rather than wait until we celebrated…

Candy Cane Treat Containers

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

It’s always fun to be able to give guests little treats when they come to visit. I first made these little treat containers when Munchkin was little. I would have a basket by the door so we could hand them out to guests as they left. I’ve used them to jazz up stocking stuffers as well. They’re quick, easy, and use things that you probably already have around the house. To make it easier, I created a free printable candy cane wrapper. Because you may be filling with gender specific treats, I went ahead and made both a red &…

Our Nativity Scene 2012

Posted in Family, and Holidays

We have a couple of family traditions around our house when it comes to Christmas. One of those traditions is adding a new nativity scene to our collection. There is just something special about being surrounded by lots of different nativity scenes. I almost always wait until after Christmas when they put everything on sale to seek out the nativity scene for the following year. Last year, we looked and looked yet we were unable to find a nativity scene. I was beginning to think that we wouldn’t be adding a new nativity scene to our collection. It seems that…
