Handmade Christmas: Delicious Gluten Free Treats

Posted in Gluten Free, Holidays, and Homemaking

Christmas can be dangerous for me because I really enjoy baking, and I also enjoy eating those baked goods.  Yesterday, Munchkin needed some cookies to take with her to her Awana Christmas party.  Since I was busy working on several other projects, I cheated and used a Betty Crocker Gluten Free chocolate chip cookie mix that I had on hand.  I tossed in some M&Ms to make it more festive and sprinkled some colored sugar on top.  I turned these into quite large cookies by using ice cream scoop sized balls of dough.  While I usually cook from scratch, it’s…

Spirit of CHRISTmas ornaments

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

We liked the movie The Polar Express.  Yes, it’s all about Santa, but Santa can be fun if we make sure our focus is where it should be — on Christ.  One of the things that Munchkin enjoys about the movie is the jingle bell.  This year, knowing that we had several Polar Express fans to give gifts to, we decided to do something as a spin off of the jingle bell in the movie. We found these bells at the dollar store.  There were 9 bells in the package.  I made some little tags that say “May the spirit…

Spreading CHRISTmas Cheer

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

During October, we were part of a neighborhood activity called Boo!  Someone ananomously placed 2 gifts on 2 doorsteps with some instructions and a paper ghost.  The instructions encouraged the recipients of the gifts to do the same for 2 other people.  Munchkin really enjoyed receiving her surprise and then spreading the giving spirit.  She decided that she wanted to start one for Christmas, so she gave me the task of coming up with something. We decided the idea would be to spread some CHRISTmas Cheer and keep the Grinch away.  We made a little ELF sign and redid a…

Keepsake Christmas Tree Activity

Posted in Holidays, and Homeschooling

We started doing this Christmas countdown craft several years ago.  Each year that we’ve done the craft, the tree changes as Munchkin’s hands change.  This year, Munchkin’s hands were the same size as my hands, so the tree doesn’t have the same shape as in years past.  It tends to work best if you have the hands getting progressively smaller as you get toward the top of the tree. Usually, we add numbered ornaments to the tree as a countdown to Christmas.  This year, we decided we wanted to have more of a focus on Christ, so I made 25…

Christmas Reading

Posted in Holidays, and Reviews

Are you looking for a way to bring your family together during Christmas? One good way to bring your family together is to start a tradition of nightly reading. We enjoy reading Christmas books each evening. This year, we have also started an advent book called Just 25 Days ‘Til Christmas. Each day has a devotional story, suggested activities, and a holiday schedule. We’ve been reading the devotional stories (almost) every evening. Next year, we’ll probably incorporate some of the activities. So far, we have enjoyed this book. The holiday scheduling ideas would be a great way to keep your…
