Lowes Build & Grow Clinics

Posted in Family, Thoughts, and Thrifty Ideas

Every other Saturday, Lowes hosts a free Build & Grow Clinic for kids. The kids get to build different projects (for free). They are given safety goggles, an apron, and the project. Upon completion of the project, they receive a certificate of completion and a patch to put on their apron. This month, they are featuring a Memory Box (for Mother’s Day) on May 10th and a See It Grow Planter on May 24th. We usually just pick ours up and take them with us. This allows us to do them on our own time. Home Depot also offers a…

Tornadoes & Prayers

Posted in Thoughts

Yesterday, our area was hit hard by tornadoes. We live in an area that rarely sees bad tornadoes, so this was quite a shock. We’re use to hurricanes, but not tornadoes. The devastation is so sad. Amazingly, there have been no fatalities reported. Here is just one of the photos that was sent in by viewers of our local tv station: Click on image to see more photos and footage… One of the homes of Munchkin’s teammate was damaged in the tornado. They’re ok, thankfully. We’re still hearing things as reports trickle in. Some areas have been evacuated for safety…

Earth Day – Celebrating God’s Creation

Posted in Holidays, and Thoughts

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth…. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth on the earth.” Genesis 1:1, 26 Earth Day is a day where we can do something special for God’s wonderful creation, but we should be making sure that we’re taking care of this wonderful blessing each day. Weather permitting, get out there and…

Turn off Your TV Week

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

Munchkin and I have decided to participate in this year’s National Turn Off Your TV Week. So, from April 21-27th, we don’t plan on watching any tv at our house. I use videos in our schooling for different subjects, so we’ll even be cutting those out this week. I have to admit that I know we’ll miss watching our Little House on the Prairie episodes. lol! Here’s the thinking behind this tv free week: Why Turn off the TV? Television cuts into family time, harms our children’s ability to read and succeed in school, and contributes to unhealthy lifestyles and…

Saying Goodbye

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

Today, we said goodbye to Munchkin’s pet guinea pig, Clover. She’s been with us for several years, and Munchkin loved playing with her. Munchkin is very much struggling with the loss, and she is dealing with a bit of guilt as she feels like there was something she could have done. (I found her late this afternoon when I went to give them their greens. She hadn’t been sick, so it was unexpected. There is nothing that could have been done.) Our dog and the other guinea pig are rather confused right now as they don’t know what’s going on.…
