Ferguson Lake & Rescue One Memorial

Posted in Family, Military Life, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Daddy decided that we would take a short off-roading trip on Saturday afternoon, so we quickly loaded up the truck and headed out. While we had been to the general area before, we had never made it all the way back to Ferguson Lake. Ferguson Lake road snakes through the Imperial long-term visitor area where many snowbirds stay during the winter months and weaves through Senator Wash and some of the Chocolate Mountains until you arrive at the end of the road. There is nothing, but beautiful scenery, hiking trails, and wildlife once you arrive. Climbing to the top… Thankfully,…

Marine Corps Nomads Goes International

Posted in Family, and Military Life

At the end of January, I briefly mentioned getting reading for some big changes, but I didn’t give any details at the time. Well, it’s finally time to make the announcement because it’s “military” official. Marine Corps Nomads (pending medical clearance for the family) is heading to Japan. Yes, it’s a huge and unexpected change for us as this was not in our plans. We’ve been slowly starting the process of getting ready as we awaited confirmation of orders. This duty station, while affording many new opportunities, was not something that we really wanted for a variety of reasons, but…

Back to Work He Goes

Posted in Family, Holidays, Military Life, and Photography

Today was D’s first day back to work after his surgery.  Thanks to a long Thanksgiving weekend, it was only a half day of work.  He was pretty wiped and hurting by the time he came home, but overall things went pretty well.  We keep thinking back to the previous back surgery and find ourselves so grateful that it all went better this time around.  Last time he went back to work, I was receiving text messages from a concerned Marine saying that he really needed to go back to the doctor prior to coming back to work.  This time,…

Spreading Cheer with sendCheer Cheerios

Posted in Military Life

I was really happy to hear that some of you are going to join me and spread some cheer with the Cheerios sendCheer campaign.  We also appreciated your words of support for our family and other military families.  It really warms my heart.  I do want to let you know that some store are selling out of the special boxes extremely quickly (which is a great thing!).  Stores are getting regular shipments in, so if you don’t readily see the specially marked boxes, go ahead and ask if they have them in the back. Well, we headed out to pick…

Cheerios sendCheer

As you know, I’m extremely excited to be part of the Cheerios sendCheer campaign.  Here’s a very brief overview of the program:

  • This fall, specially-marked boxes of Cheerios cereal will feature Cheer postcards on the front of the box. Shoppers can simply cut out the postcard from the Cheerios logo, write a message of thanks on the back, add a stamp and mail the pre-addressed card to the USO. The USO will deliver the Cheer card to military families across the country.
  • For each postcard received through November 2012, Cheerios will make a $1 donation to the USO to help fund programs that support military families.
  • During the campaign kick off, Cheerios donated $150,000 to the USO, and they will continue to donate up to an additional $100,000 based upon the number of postcards received from specially marked boxes through November 30th, 2012.

To help you join the campaign and spread some cheer to our military families, I am able to give away one of the cool prize packs featured above.  You’ll receive a sendCheer box of Cheerios, a Cheerios bowl, a Cheerios spoon, and a very cool cereal dispenser.

GIVEAWAY – Open to US Residents Only – Ends 11/30
