Well Stocked Freezer

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

Thursday was our Azure Standard pick-up day.  I haven’t ordered in a little while, and I haven’t done any major grocery shopping.  Our freezer was almost bare.  I hate that feeling as it makes it difficult to prepare meals.  There is something beautiful about a well stocked freezer. After picking up my Azure order, I headed to the grocery store to pick up my ground turkey and chicken breasts.  This time, it was actually cheaper to buy the “tubes” of ground turkey instead of buying the bulk size and repackaging.  Plus, that saved me a little time. Once I arrived…

Passing Skills to the Next Generation: Cooking

Posted in Homemaking, and Homeschooling

My butter cream frosting recipe was copied from my mom’s butter cream recipe.  My mom had copied that recipe from my grandfather’s recipe.  I made a slight change to the recipe (which I still need to note on the recipe card), and now, Munchkin will be copying the recipe from my recipe.  Munchkin will be the 4th generation to use the same basic recipe. I stood by my mom’s side as she taught me how to make butter cream frosting and then frost a cake.  She showed me some basic skills and then sent me off to practice on a…

Welcome to the Bakery

Munchkin wanted to work on her cake decorating skills, so we decided to ask her friend to join us.  This morning, Munchkin went with her friend and her family to see a movie while I baked some cakes and cupcakes and prepared the frosting for the cake decorating class. After lunch, the girls started working on some basic skills.  I covered some cardboard with aluminum foil to give them a space to practice using different decorating tips.  While they were practicing, they had fun taste testing the frosting.  Pretty soon, they decided that they had tasted enough frosting. **grin** While…

Summer Afternoon Activities: God’s Eyes

Posted in Homemaking

Munchkin learned how to make these while she was at VBS this year.  She enjoyed it so much that she requested that we pick up some wooden dowels in order to make more at home.  We just used some yarn that we had on hand, so these were a very inexpensive art project. Munchkin is demonstrating how to make the God’s Eyes in the collage below.  You take 2 wooden dowels and cross them.  Taking the end of the yarn, you tie a knot around the center of the X.  You make a single loop around the first dowel.  Continue…

Sunny Summer Days

Posted in Family, and Homemaking

It seems that lately Munchkin and I are making the most of our summer afternoons by working on various craft and sewing projects.  She’s still having fun playing on the Wii and playing outdoors with her friends, but almost every day, we’re doing some little project together. I’m so enjoying this time together with her and the chance to talk with her without outside distractions.  I’ll be posting some of these projects as time allows.  She wants me to show off her latest projects – God’s Eyes.  Lord willing, I will pictures of them along with instructions tomorrow. D has…
