10 Tips for a Greener, Cleaner Home Part 2

Posted in Homemaking

Yesterday, I talked about some of the products that we use in keeping our home green and clean.  Today, I’m continuing with the 10 tips by sharing some ways that we keep our home clean and green. 6. Buy concentrate or in bulk When you buy your cleaner in concentrate form, you are saving money (not paying for the water in most cleaners), and you are reducing packaging.  Buying in bulk also usually saves money and reduces packaging. 7. Start Decluttering I am really bad when it comes to clutter.  I like to hold on to things which only creates…

10 Tips for a Greener, Cleaner Home Part 1

Posted in Gluten Free, Homemaking, and Thrifty Ideas

Our journey towards having a greener household all started when we went gluten free a few years ago.  Having to look at the ingredients on everything (not just food) really opens your eyes to what is in various products.  Our switch to eating gluten free helped us transition into a healthier and more organic diet.  In turn, this lead to us paying more attention to how different products made us feel. Staying at home means that I don’t have to worry about taking time off if Munchkin is sick.  Homeschooling means that Munchkin is not missing school when she’s ill.  Staying home for both of us means more flexibility and free time. The first picture is of all of the items that I store in Tupperware.  At any given time, we have several different kinds of gluten free cereal on hand.  I have various types of gluten free flours including: teff, amaranth, sorghum, sweet rice, white rice, brown rice, tapioca,…

When we head out camping, we normally have very little space for storage of food and seasonings.  We love lots of flavor in our foods, and we don’t want to give up flavor even though we’re camping.  To make things easy, D likes to take his “all purpose” seasoning, Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb, with us.  It works for chicken, steak, eggs…  It gives that punch of flavor that we like without needing lots of different seasonings. For those who are watching their salt intake, Mrs. Dash makes a nice substitute because it is salt-free.  You don’t feel like you’re…
