The Little Things in Life: Sewing Together

Posted in Family, and Homemaking

On Thursday afternoon, Munchkin decided that she wanted to try to make a sock monkey.  She’s always adored sock monkeys and thought it would be fun to make her own.  We didn’t have the “right” socks for the job, but she didn’t really care.  We looked up the basic design for the sock monkey set off on our sock monkey adventure.  Slowly, the monkey started to take shape as we sat there talking, cutting, sewing, and stuffing.  We laughed as the monkey was a little too skinny and had crooked ears, but Munchkin was pleased with the results.  I just…

Handmade Nature Journal

Posted in Homemaking, and Homeschooling

Munchkin really loves drawing and nature, so it is only natural to want to combine the 2 activities.  We never seem to be able to find a nature journal that is “just right” for her.  She likes to personalize her things, so we decided to take that idea and run with it. A new week begins…

Mrs. White over at Legacy of Home does a weekly front porch visit.  I love the idea as it starts the week on a positive note, but I tend to forget about it until it’s too late.  Since I have a little time on my hands today, I decided to have my own little front porch visit as we get ready to jump start our week.  Since our front porch is a wee bit hot today, I’ll invite y’all inside to sit in the cool air conditioning. This week, Munchkin will be attending day VBS on base.  Last year, she…

A Delicious Ooops: Baked Waffle Surprise

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

I was making a quadruple batch of belguim waffles for D to put in the freezer, and I started having a problem with some of the waffles sticking for some reason.  I was doing nothing different, so it was just one of those crazy things.  The crazy, torn apart waffles looked horrible, but they tasted good.  Not wanting the waffles to go to waste, I decided to try an experiment with them. I tore apart the bigger pieces of waffles and placed them all in a baking dish.  I then mixed up 8 eggs with 3/4 C heavy whipping cream…

Simple Spring Snacking: Kiwi

Posted in Homemaking, and Photography

Recently, Munchkin discovered that she really likes Kiwi fruit.  It makes a delicious easy snack in the afternoons.  I’ve enjoyed Kiwi for as long as I can remember.  I like the tart, not-quite-ripe Kiwi as well as the sweet, very ripe Kiwi.  I remember enjoying these special treats when I was a child.  Munchkin wasn’t sold on them until this week.  I sliced up a few for my after lunch snack, and she asked to try one.  She took her first bite and promptly asked if she could have more.  Before I knew it, the plate was gone.  She’s now…
