Project 365 – #215
One of the fun things that we were able to do while on vacation (aka our small family reunion) was go out to eat. I realize that for some people going out to eat doesn’t seem all that special, but since we’re gluten free and have to be extremely careful about cross contamination, we rarely go out to eat. Usually, we just take our food with us on vacation. While we did do that on this trip, we were also able to hit a few different places including Chick-fil-a, Picazzos (the best gluten free pizza), and the Tonto Bar & Grill.
The Tonto Bar & Grill in Cave Creek has a full gluten free menu. While they are not a strictly gluten free restaurant, they are very knowledgeable about gluten free and offer many choices included a house made gluten free sandwich roll. They even brought us out toasted gluten free bread. Munchkin and I happily munched on tortilla crusted crab cakes (gluten free) while D indulged in the gluten free Tonto burger. D’s only complaint was that he would have liked to see the bun slightly toasted as it crumbled slightly while eating. The flavor on these native american/southwest dishes was fabulous. We all walked away quite full and unable to eat dessert even though they did offer several gluten free options.
After the meal, we headed over to the movies to watch Cars 2. We don’t go to the movies very often either, and when we do, it’s usually at the base theater. It was fun to head over to a “real” movie theater and enjoy watching the movie together. We needed to swing by the trailer to check on puppy after the movie, so my nieces had fun playing with the guinea pigs with Munchkin. (And yes, this picture was taken on a different day, but I forgot to snap a picture that day.) The girls always had fun playing with the “squeaks”, and honestly, I think the “squeaks” really enjoyed all the special attention they received.
