Project 365 – #214
Grandpa decided that he wanted to take us all horseback riding. Munchkin has really, really wanted to go riding for some time, but it just never seemed to work out for various reasons. Well, this trip, she got the opportunity to go riding while we were up visiting the Grand Canyon. To say she was excited would be a major understatement. We arrived at the stables with cloudy skies overhead, but we had high hopes for a great ride.
We took some pictures and saddled up for the ride. Unfortunately, my one niece was a little too young to ride, so Grandma ended up staying behind with her. She was such a good sport and happily waved at us as we rode away.
As we get use to riding the horses (and keeping them from eating as we head down the trail), we start to hear thunder. A few rain drops begin to fall. Then, the skies open up and the rain begins to fall. A chill fills the air. Lightening streaks across the sky. There is no turning back. We need to finish the ride. Our ride lasted 2 hours, and most of that time was spent riding through the thunderstorm.
We arrived back at the stables – soggy and freezing. D actually poured water out of his cowboy boots before getting into the truck. All any of us could think about was getting warm and dry. Hot showers – fleece – hot food… My niece and Grandma weren’t as disappointed that they missed out on the ride. lol! The funny thing was that the next day the older girls were already talking about going riding again. It’s definitely something that we’ll remember for many years to come. Remember when we went riding in the thunderstorm….
hope you dont all catch colds
neat photos
D did end up getting sick. He’s still working his way through that. Thankfully, Munchkin and I are doing okay so far.
