Get Better PuppyProject 365 – #118

Today, I got up earlier, so I would be able to prepare a meal for D in the hospital in case he was able to eat solid foods today.  (He started a liquid diet late last night.)  I wanted to get the meal done before we headed over for our morning visit.  While I was preparing his meal, I received a text from him saying they were going to release him from the hospital this afternoon.  I was in shock as he still hadn’t eaten any solid food, but I assumed that they would make sure he was able to eat solid foods at lunch prior to him being released.

As Munchkin and I were heading over to the hospital, D sent two more text messages.  Once we were in the parking lot, I checked the messages.  He was being released as soon as we arrived!!!  Huh?  We left the food in the car and headed up to his room.  They were indeed releasing him right then.  Okay….

I went and got the truck while Munchkin stayed with the nurse to wheel Daddy down to the hospital entrance.  On the way home, I stopped by the base pharmacy to drop off his prescriptions.  I quickly took him home and Munchkin helped get him settled in while I picked up the prescriptions.  After some lunch, I ran out to get a few things that he needed while he rested.  Munchkin was being a great nurse to her Daddy.  She even surprised him with the puppy pictured above as well as a handmade card.

While I’m not sure that they should have released D this morning, we’re happy to have him home.  He’ll certainly get better, more personalized care here at home.  He’s doing okay, but the road to recovery is going to be long.  We greatly appreciate all of the prayers.

  1. He’s probably already feeling better at home. I am always itching to get out of the hospital. Using my best “I’m an RN, I’ll know what to look for” lines, I convinced my doctor to release me the same day after my discectomy, and I went home the morning after my hysterectomy.

I’ll bet all three of you are relieved.
