Biblical Reproductions: The Book of War Scroll

Posted in Reviews

Biblical ReproductionsA special thanks to Biblical Reproductions for sending us a sample of their Dead Sea Scroll reproduction collection to help facilitate the writing of this review.

In my two previous posts about Biblical Reproductions, I gave a little information about Biblical Reproductions and the layout of the Biblical Reproductions website. Today, I get to reveal what I received from their very interesting collection of Biblical reproductions.

I must admit in advance that both Munchkin and I were rather excited to see what would be inside of our surprise package. Our regular mailman was out the day that the package arrived which meant a trip to the post office to pick up the package. Of course, I had to go right out and pick it up instead of waiting until the next time I headed into town. I was good and waited until I arrived home to open the package as I knew Munchkin wanted to see what was inside as much as I did.

Munchkin opened the package and pulled out the surprise inside. It was a beautiful reproduction from the Dead Sea Scroll Collection – The Book of War Scroll. The reproduction image, an authorized reproduction from the Holyland, was pressed between two acrylic plates. It had hardware which allows us to either hang the scroll on the wall or, by putting on the “feet”, sit it on a desk or bookshelf. These reproductions are approved by the Israel Antiquities Authority, and they each of a item serial number.

The scroll came with a Certificate of Authorization which also had information about the scroll as well as the translation of what the scroll actually says. This was a pretty neat aspect of the scroll. While this information is available on the website, I like that it was included on the back of the certificate.

When D arrived home, we showed him the scroll which he thought was quite interesting. Of course, one of the first things he said was, “I wonder what is say.” I simply handed him the certificate so he could read it and find out. He appreciated the fact that these reproductions were authorized by the Israel Antiquities Authority. The history of the scroll and translation added a good bit of value to the reproduction piece.

The Book of War Scroll reproduction is done well. The coloration and staining makes the piece feel a bit more real. The reproduction image is missing some of the aged look of the real scroll, but this is only apparent at closer inspection of the scroll. From a distance, it looks quite authentic and old.

Book of War Scroll Certificate of Authorization

Since Munchkin is studying Biblical Archaeology, The Book of War Scroll was quite interesting to her especially. It lead to discussions about language and how amazing it is that things like the original scrolls still exist after all this time. Being able to have a piece of Biblical history – even if it is a reproduction – is quite cool.

Biblical Reproductions has done a wonderful job with this particular piece of Biblical history. I encourage you to check out some of the other reproduction pieces that other members of the CWA Review Team reviewed to get an even better appreciation for the work that Biblical Reproductions has done with their reproduction pieces.

The Book of War Scroll is available for purchase on the Biblical Reproductions site for $124.95 individually. It can also be included in the 5 Scroll Special Edition set which varies in price depending on the frame chosen for the set. Biblical Reproductions is offering my readers a special discount code that will make you eligible to receive a piece of pottery of their choice (3 different items, value of $22.95) with purchase of any reproduction except for pottery itself. Just enter coupon code HLCWA14 to receive your free piece of pottery with your purchase.

For example: If you buy any of the scrolls, put in coupon code HLCWA14, specify which pottery reproduction piece you would like in the Notes field, and Biblical Reproductions will send that pottery piece to you free with your purchase. The same applies to all the inscriptions as well as the Crucified man, but it does not apply to pottery reproduction pieces. If you purchase 2 or 3 eligible items, you will receive 2 or 3 pottery pieces respectively.

These pieces would be wonderful gifts for pastors, teachers, or Biblical historians. They are also great conversation pieces or study tools within the home.
