Book Description:
Wondrous Works of God dynamically retells biblical stories, bringing lessons about God’s character to the forefront. Each account in Wondrous Works of God is written in lively, modern-day language and is followed by an application section with several discussion-sparking questions and prayer points. Moving chronologically through both the Old and New Testaments, parents and children will clearly see the faithfulness, holiness, and love of God. Among the stories included in this second volume (Mighty Acts of God being the first volume in the series), are the creation of Eve, a wife for Isaac, Baby Moses, Gabriel’s appearance to Mary, and Paul’s shipwreck, to name only a few.

My Thoughts:
Starr Meade does a nice job of taking events in scripture and putting them in easy to understand story format for children. Key concepts in each of the 90 chapters are highlighted in red ink. The scripture passage used for the story are included, so families can look them up to read in conjunction with the story. In addition, another scripture passage is written out in the text that goes with the main concept being covered in the story. Each chapter concludes with an “As For Me and My House” section which includes questions to help spark discussions about the ideas explored within that story.
The illustrations are simple, but they add some interest to each of the stories. This set of family devotionals starts with the Adam and Eve and the Fall of man and fittingly concludes with Jesus conquering Satin. I appreciate the fact that while these stories are formatted in an easy-to-understand way for children they do not feel overly dumbed down. Wondrous Works of God would make a nice family devotional book.
