Back Surgery: Take Dos

D’s back surgery was scheduled for today.  Originally, it was set up for us to arrive at the hospital at 9:00.  This weekend, we were told that it had been rescheduled for 1:30, and we’d need to be there at noon.  Because D had suffered from migraines for most of the weekend, we had planned on spending some quality family time together the morning of the surgery.  As we were getting ready to do some things together, we receive a call from the hospital saying that we need to head in asap as they’re going to do the surgery early.

There is good and bad news in this.  The good news is that the surgery will get done sooner, so the day (in theory) will not be as long.  The bad news is that our family time just went out the window, and Munchkin is absolutely crushed.  She was prepared for the surgery today, but not for it to be so soon.  She had been counting on that special time with Daddy before the surgery.  Ugh!

The surgery itself went well.  It will still later in the day by the time D came out of recovery, but not nearly as late as it would have been had the surgery began at 1:30.  After spending a little time with him after he was settled into his room.  Munchkin and I planned on having a relaxing evening to decompress from a rather crazy day.  This was not to be.  It wasn’t long after arriving home that I received a call from the on-duty nurse saying there was an issue with him receiving a meal due to it needing to be gluten free.  D was really hungry, so we head over to the hospital to bring him some food.

We stayed with him for a little while before we came back home.  Munchkin and I cuddled and watched the rest of our movie before saying goodnight.  It was a day of ups and downs, and now my pillow is calling, so I’m off to bed.

I am praying for D and for you and Munchkin as well. May you all be filled with His healing power and amazing peace.
