Project 365 – #157
Munchkin has really been missing her guinea pigs. One passed away while D was deployed last time, and a few months later we needed to give up the other one for adoption due to our cross country move. Since that time, she’s been wanting guinea pigs. D and I held off for quite some time as I didn’t want the responsibility of taking care of another pet.
Earlier this year, D told Munchkin that if she could show that she would be completely responsible for a pet, we would consider it. She had to write up a report on the care of it. She would also be responsible for purchasing the guinea pig and all of the supplies. We wanted to make sure that she truly wanted the guinea pig and that she would take care of it.
On Friday, we (Munchkin and I) decided to stop by a local pet store to get an idea of the cost of adoption and supplies, and she saw 2 adorable guinea pigs. I told her that she would have to talk to Daddy about it. The next day, Munchkin took Daddy to the pet store. One of the guinea pigs had already been adopted. Munchkin was rather disappointed, but she was happy to show Daddy the one that was left. When we found out how difficult it was to find a guinea pig here (low supply, high demand), Munchkin asked if she could purchase the guinea pig.
Unfortunately, she did not have enough money saved up for the cage. After a good bit of discussion, we allowed her to take out a loan from the Bank of Mom and Dad. She happily came home with a new guinea pig. Upon arrival home, she quickly started to get everything set up. The poor guy spent the better part of the day without a name as we tried to come up with a good name for the adorable brown guinea pig.
Finally, Munchkin decided on the name Choco. Choco is quickly becoming part of the family, and we’re getting use to hearing the squeaks once again….
Awe! My kids both had them once.
Both have a sweet face. LOL!

The two look quite an attached pair already. What a responsible and bright young lady you have raised.
Our girls have had their guinea pigs for about 15 months now, and they have been incredibly responsible with them, taking care of them daily, and cleaning the cage weekly without grumbling. We have enjoyed the guinea pigs so much! They are fun to snuggle with on the couch while reading a book, having family Bible devotional times, or watching a movie. So glad to hear that Munchkin is enjoying her new little friend!
