Having Fun with Yuck!!!

Yuck Science

Let me introduce you to some fun play with polymers.  What’s a polymer?  Well, that’s one of the things that we learned about when we started our experiments with our 4 types of Yuck from Buckets-O-Fun!

Polymers are very large molecules formed by repeated patterns of chemical units strung together.

Yuck is an acrylic polymer.  We had the chance to test out the four types of Yuck:

  • Chunky (like ice cubes)
  • Saucy (like applesauce)
  • Sticky (um, like snot)
  • Snowy (like light, bubbly snow)

The samples we received came in four little labeled baggies.  The saucy, sticky, and snowy Yuck looked like various sizes of sugar crystals while the chunky Yuck looked like coarse sea salt.

We decided to use disposable containers since the directions mentioned that things could get messy.  Following the science experiment directions, we observed the polymers prior to adding water, while adding water, and after adding water.  It was fun to see how even though the saucy, sticky, and snowy Yuck “powders” looked very similar, we ended up with very different results for each once water was added.

Yuck Samples

Munchkin’s favorites were the snowy and the chunky yuck.  We are currently watching the different types of Yuck! to see what they do as they dry up.  Obviously, since we’re still observing, our science experiments haven’t yet concluded.  Yuck gets 2 HUGE thumbs up at our house!

While Yuck is an interesting and fun science experiment, it can also be used for fun activities and games both at home and in large group settings.  Buckets-O-Fun has a nice sheet with all kinds of game ideas.

Safety Note: You do need to be careful that Yuck is not ingested as it is meant to absorb water.  You also don’t want to put it down the drains as it will clog them.  Yuck is biodegradable, so you can put it around your plants (if desired) or toss it in the dumpster when you’ve finished with it.

Want to try out Yuck for yourself?  You can request a free sample on their website.  While you’re there, you’ll want to check out the fun accessories for Yuck.  Buckets-O-Fun offers many great items to get you and your crew up and moving.  Yuck comes in various size packages, and prices vary according to how much Yuck you order.

I received samples of Yuck as a member of the TOS Crew to help facilitate the writing of this frank and honest review. All opinions are my own.
