The Great Bedroom Throwdown

Posted in Family, and Homemaking

Gloves and DusterOn Tuesday, I posted that Munchkin and I were having the Great Bathroom Throwdown as a fun way to get the house clean.  I am very pleased to say that things went really well, and we had fun with the whole process.

We started by assembling our needed cleaning supplies (one set of cleaning supplies for each person).  After we yelled, “Begin”, we both started cleaning our respective bathroom with a flurry of activity.  Occasionally, Munchkin would head over to see how I was doing while she was waiting for various things to soak.  Sometimes, she’d ask me how to get something a bit cleaner (like the toilet).  In the end, she finished her bathroom faster than I did mine, but Daddy said I did a slightly better job cleaning since she forgot to clean her floor.  Daddy determined that the Great Bathroom Throwdown ended in a tie with two nicely cleaned bathrooms – a win for the whole household!

On Wednesday, we started part 1 of the Great Bedroom Throwdown.  We decided that cleaning the bedrooms was a bit more involved, so we would clean the room one day and finish cleaning closets and other things (such as vacuuming and dusting) the second day.  All items that did not belong in the bedroom were to be moved outside of the room to be dealt with later.  (I didn’t want putting those things away to detract from the task at hand.)  Munchkin ended up with a huge pile of items outside of her room that will need to be tackled sooner rather than later.  I ended up removing a good pile of books and school items from the master bedroom.

Today will be day 2 of the the Great Bedroom Throwdown.  We will continue our tackle once Munchkin completes her schoolwork for the day.  I’m pleased with how this method of cleaning is working for us.  It wouldn’t work all of the time as it would get a little old, but for now, it is working well.  Hopefully, we’ll end the day with two nicely cleaned bedrooms, and Daddy will inspect the rooms to find things that we’ve forgotten.  (Please note: the inspection is done in fun and with love.  It’s not a serious, military-type inspection.  We want to encourage, not discourage the hard work.)

This post made me smile…I could picture the two of you cleaning up a storm! The unanswered question of all time, where oh where does all of the “STUFF” that we seem to collect come from ~ LOL? Keep up the good work ladies, SDI Daddy will be by to check on your progress! What a great way to teach her how to do the job and have fun doing it! Have a great night & God Bless 🙂

    • I would like to know the answer to that question because I certainly couldn’t have brought all of this stuff into my room. 😉 lol! Everything seems to multiply at a very fast rate.
