America’s Math Teacher
by Math Essentials
America’s Math Teacher is an online math curriculum that spans grade 4 math all the way to Algebra I. Algebra II curriculum is in the works at the time of this writing. A full year costs $195 for homeschoolers. Multiple students can work at different levels. Students can work at their own pace which allows them to master the concepts before moving on to the next topic.
The Learning Center contains online video lessons as well as printable written lessons. The Evaluation Center contains quizzes and exams for the student to take after completing the lessons.
Since Munchkin is working on Algebra, we decided to jump into the Algebra lessons. We were encouraged to start from the very beginning, so that’s what we did. The teacher presents the material on a whiteboard format and encourages the students to work the problems with him. It’s a step-by-step process.
Once the lesson was completed, it was time to do the worksheets to make sure Munchkin understood the concepts that were presented. An answer key is provided for the teacher which I appreciate. Even though I can do the problems, I don’t want to “have” to do the problems in order to correct her work.
There were no Algebra evaluations available*, so we tested out at Pre-Algebra evaluation. The one aspect that Munchkin didn’t like was that the quiz was timed. This is something that always throws her for a loop – especially when she can see the clock counting down on the screen. It would be nice if the teacher could remove the timing feature or at least take it off the screen.
*Because this is a new program, there are still glitches being worked out and new content being added. They are addressing the concerns/issues as they come up. So, the program is a work-in-progress at the time of writing this review.
We used this program as a supplement to our regular curriculum to help reinforce concepts learned. America’s Math Teacher calls the service a “24X7 Online Tutor”. It’s nice that you don’t have to pick one level. The teacher is able to decide what is best for the student and have the student complete those tasks.
If you have multiple students in 4th grade math through Algebra or if you have a student that flies through math, this program could be a good value for your homeschool.

I received a trial subscription to America’s Math Teacher as a member of the TOS crew in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
