As part of the TOS Crew, we were given the opportunity to review 2 products from the Math Tutor dvd line.  We received The Basic Math Word Problem Tutor – 8 Hour Video Course and Young Minds – Numbers and Counting.

Basic Word ProblemsBoth Munchkin and I were impressed with The Basic Math Word Problem Tutor.  The instructor, Jason Gibson, was easy to listen to and follow.  He worked through each of the word problems on a white board step-by-step to allow the student to thoroughly understand each concept being taught.  You can read more about Jason’s educational and professional background here.

The first disc covers adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers and decimals.  The second disc covers adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, percents, and ratios & proportion. While this particular video course went over things that Munchkin already knew, she had fun seeing if she could figure everything out in her head while he was working the word problem on the board.  She was quite impressed with his teaching style and said she would highly recommend this course to others.

The Basic Math Word Problem Tutor 8 Hour Video Course is available on dvd for $26.99.

Young Minds

Young Minds – Numbers and Counting combines the beautiful classical music of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms, Pachelbel, and Chopin, eye catching images, and numbers and counting.  Obviously, this is product is too young for Munchkin, but we both agree that the dvd is well done.  Younger children will no doubt enjoy the music and images paired with learning their numbers.  The bonus materials included fun, simple picture puzzles (reinforcing numbers learned), connect the dot images (reinforcing counting), and guess the animal.

Young Minds Numbers and Counting is available on dvd for $19.99.

All Math Tutor dvds come with a money back guarantee.
