Gymathtics is an award winning program that combines a body workout with a mind workout. The exercise program designed for kids of all ages, but the math facts target the 2nd to 5th grade levels.
The complete 30 minute program includes:
- Shape Stretches Warm Up: Stretch your mind and body with line, circle, and polygon stretches.
- Counting Calisthenics: Aerobic movements work your heart as fun counting concepts (such as skip counting) work your brain.
- Pattern Power: Growing and repeating pattern exercise combinations challenge minds and strengthen muscles.
- Well-Being Wind Down: Relaxing stretches cool down the body and open the mind to think about healthy lifestyle choices including the Nice Wave Stretch and Big Dream Stretch.
This is one of those products that sounds really great, but it fell short when it came to implementing it in our home. Munchkin did not enjoy the combination of exercise and math. She found the math portions hard to follow while trying to focus on the exercise portion. Basically, when it came down to it, the style of the dvd just did not mesh with her style of learning or exercise.
The other problem for us is that Munchkin gets plenty of exercise without doing exercise dvds, so it’s not something that we would normally use in our home for her. The concept seemed a bit forced to her.
I do believe that this would work better for someone with younger kids or kids that are just starting to learn the concepts being introduced. This would even work for someone that wants to have a little learning attached to their kids exercise routine.
