Munchkin’s 11th Birthday Party

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homemaking

Munchkin hasn’t had a big birthday party for herself since she was in kindergarten, so we decided this was a good year to have a big party.  Munchkin has been blessed with great friends at this location, so we wanted to take advantage of that before people start moving away.

Let me introduce you to Sahara, Munchkin’s birthday camel.  Instead of a traditional card from Mommy and Daddy, we gave this to Munchkin.  She received her birthday camel as well as her other presents from family prior to us heading to church on Sunday morning.

Sahara the Birthday Camel

We tried to do most of the decorating on Saturday night, so things wouldn’t be quite so rushed on Sunday when we arrived home from church.  As you can see, we went with a pink and brown theme for the American Girl Molly Mystery party.

I, unfortunately, didn’t get very many pictures of the actual party since I played an active roll in the skit.  In this picture the girls are trying to figure out the clues that they just found.  The girls snacked on a veggie platter during this part of the party.  In the script, the veggies were from a victory garden.  I added a little fun by cutting the cucumbers in the shape of stars.

I made both cupcakes and an ice cream cake.  The cupcakes were chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.  The ice cream cake was vanilla cake with strawberry ice cream and butter cream frosting.  Between the two flavors, we had something that everyone could eat and enjoy.  (And yes, it was all gluten free.)

Munchkin did not see her birthday cake until it was set in front of her at the table.  It was a fun surprise.  While it meant a very late night for me when it came to decorating it, it was totally worth it to see the look on her face when she saw it for the first time.

We also did the pinata which was filled with little toys instead of candy and the opening of presents.  After the official party was over, the girls played with their dolls for a while.  I was told that it was a wonderful party and that everyone had lots of fun.

What a beautifully girly birthday party! You did an excellent job of decorating the birthday cake – was it an ice-cream cake?
