April Homeschool Update

Posted in Homeschooling

Script FrenzyCan you believe that it’s already April 1st?  I find it hard to believe, but here we are.  Munchkin will be celebrating her birthday this month; she’ll be 11!  Several of her friends and members of our extended family will be celebrating birthdays this month as well, so it’s sure to be a busy month.

Before things get too crazy around here, I thought I would give a quick overview of what Munchkin has been studying…

Munchkin is continuing to work her way through Grapevine Studies Old Testament Overview.  She really enjoys this and has pretty much started working on it completely on her own.

In science, she’s working her Marine Biology course which she’s really enjoying.  This month, we’ll be working on some dissections.  It looks like her friend will be joining us for the dissections which should be fun.

Munchkin has just started a new challenge for writing called The Script Frenzy.  It’s a free program online for young writers.  By the time the month ends, she’ll, in theory, have written a complete script.  She’s decided that her script will be for a play.

For history, Munchkin has done lapbooks from Hands of a Child on World War I, America’s Great Depression, World War II, and The Holocaust.  We haven’t assembled any of the lapbooks at this point, so I don’t have any pictures of the finished product.  She’s currently reading The Diary of Anne Frank.  (I’m reviewing a book called the secret Holocaust Diaries, so that may be added to her reading if I deem it okay.)  As a family, we watched The League of Grateful Sons which I highly recommend as part of any WWII study.

We’re continuing with Munchkin’s composer study and her keyboarding program.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some of the other things we’ve been doing.  We’re also working on a special craft project, but I’ll share more about that later.  Munchkin will be starting baseball soon, but for now, we’re enjoying the short break from sports.

On Sunday, Munchkin will be in the Easter play at church.  She’s really excited about this, and I’m looking forward to seeing the set they’ve created.  It should be up now as tonight is the final rehearsal prior to Sunday morning.  I’m praying the kids can pull themselves together, so the play will be a blessing for many…
