Frugal Friday: Plant Swap

Posted in Homemaking, and Thrifty Ideas

If you’ve looked over my blog, you know that I’ve been doing a lot of planting and work in my yard. About a week ago, a new group in our area was started for swapping/sharing plants. I thought this was a wonderful idea, and joined the group.

Today, I picked up at least 10 Rose of Sharon plants for free. One of the ladies lives very close to me and was giving them away. She says that I can have as many as I want for free. Wow!

There have been many things listed on the group. I’ll be getting rid of a bush that I (and my neighbor since it’s on the property line) do not want, and someone will gladly be receiving this full size bush for their home.

Many people have listed that they have started their veggie gardens and will be sharing plants (and later veggies) as it comes time to thin their plants. What a great way to add to our growing garden. I’m sure that I’ll have more plants to share later as well.

I highly recommend checking to see if this type of group is available in your area. You can’t beat free plants (and possibly fruits/veggies later in the season).

I’ve done this via Freecycle, but a swap specifically for plants is a wonderful idea! I think I’ve seen regionalized swaps on gardenweb.com.

Nice swap find. I love Rose of Sharon, and that’s quite a savings!

WOW! What a FABULOUS IDEA! Seriously….I am JEALOUS! I have heard of things like this but have NEVER been close by to enjoy the perks! 🙁

What a great idea! (I know I am gushing but that is just cool…)
