Over at Biblical Womanhood, they have a fun thing called Frugal Fridays. I love all the links to the different blogs with all of the creative ways to be frugal. This week the theme is curtains, so I thought I’d participate for the first time.
Here’s a picture of the curtains that I made for our “classroom”. My daughter wanted a safari type them, so I went all out. The curtains are very simple to make. There are just 4 panel curtains — just do a simple hem on the bottom and sides (if necessary, I just left the salvaged edge) then make a simple pocket for the rod. Then I made 4? valances (it’s been awhile). Once again, just hem the bottom and make simple pocket for the rod. It took less than 30 minutes to make these.
I had also made a matching full size comforter to use on the futon, but recently we received a sofa/bed that need recovering. So, I took the comforter and turned it into a slipcover on the sofa. All of the pillows (except the body pillow) were covered using old woman’s shirts that I purchased very cheaply at the thrift store. My daughter loves it!
For the pillows, I used the existing buttons on the shirts to create the closure on the pillows. For the comforter, it was actually a comforter cover. I made a large square quilt — the side showing is larger than the other side which is actually a more traditional size square pattern. To turn it into a slipcover, I just ripped out the seam on the end of the comforter cover and slipped it over the seat/foam. It was really quite easy.
Your sofa looks so homey and comfortable!! I love it! 🙂
