Analytical Grammar Companion Dvds

Posted in Homeschooling, and Reviews

Towards the end of the last school year, we started using Analytical Grammar.  I was one of those moms that said I wouldn’t use a grammar program that required a great deal of diagramming.  Well, once again, I’m eating my own words.  It turns out that diagramming works for Munchkin.  She doesn’t always like it, but it does work for her. Munchkin liked the format of Analytical Grammar, but her one complaint was that she felt there wasn’t quite enough instruction for her.  Because she wanted to do the work independently, she would tackle the lesson using her understanding of…

Project 365 – #255 While Munchkin has been doing high school work in some subjects for a little while now, this year is the first year where she’ll be doing high school level work in all subject, so she’s **gulp** officially in high school.  Yikes!  How did that happen?  She’s excited, but a little leery of the extra work that comes along with doing high school level work in all courses.  It has been fun planning some of the classes for this year because I’m starting to have the opportunity to really tailor her learning to her passions/interests due to having completed…

Foundations: Christian Apologetic Course

Posted in Christian Life, and Homeschooling

Project 365 – #242 I think I’ve mentioned a time or two (or ten) that we had the privilege of listening to Ken Ham at our state homeschool convention in July.  While we were there, we ordered the brand new Foundations curriculum from Answers in Genesis.  The idea was for us to go through this 12-week study as a family, and from there, we would develop it into a Christian Apologetic Course for Munchkin (for high school credit). Last week, the curriculum set arrived.  Foundations is actually set up in an adult, group study format.  The curriculum set comes with…

Elements of Faith Vol. 1: Hydrogen to Tin Faith Facts and Learning Lesson from the Periodic Table Richard D. Duncan The study of the periodic table of elements can often be tedious task for students.  Symbols, letters, numbers – they all blur into each other and leave the student wanting to just walk away from chemistry all together.  Many students want to know how the study of the periodic table is relevant to their lives.  Many chemistry classes leave them without practical application, so they walk away thinking that the periodic table is irrelevant to their every day lives. The…

Vocabulary Cartoons: SAT Word Power Review

Vocabulary Cartoons: SAT Word Power by New Monic Books Vocabulary doesn’t have to be boring or difficult.  Vocabulary Cartoons uses fun cartoons and mnemonics to help students remember difficult to remember vocabulary words. Each page has a vocabulary word with the phonetic pronunciation, part of speech, and definition.  Link words are tied together with the vocabulary word in fun sentence to help the student remember the meaning of the vocabulary word.  The sentence (caption) is paired with a cartoon to give the student a visual mnemonic.  Finally, the “lesson” ends with the vocabulary word being used 3 sentences. The Vocabulary…
