Vocabulary Cartoons: SAT Word Power
by New Monic Books
Vocabulary doesn’t have to be boring or difficult. Vocabulary Cartoons uses fun cartoons and mnemonics to help students remember difficult to remember vocabulary words.
Each page has a vocabulary word with the phonetic pronunciation, part of speech, and definition. Link words are tied together with the vocabulary word in fun sentence to help the student remember the meaning of the vocabulary word. The sentence (caption) is paired with a cartoon to give the student a visual mnemonic. Finally, the “lesson” ends with the vocabulary word being used 3 sentences.
The Vocabulary Cartoons book is geared towards 7-12 grade students, but it would be great for anyone who wants to expand their own vocabulary in a fun way. It contains 290 vocabulary words and includes 29 review quizzes. Vocabulary Cartoons: SAT Word Power is available for $12.95.
When we first received the Vocabulary Cartoons book, D and I sat there and cracked up at the cartoons. In the process, we actually were learning new vocabulary words. I was excited to get Munchkin started with this book, so she started up with it the very next day.
Munchkin chuckled as she learned her vocabulary words. She had fun sharing what she was learning and showing us the different cartoons. Each day, she is learning a new word and reviewing the previous words. She’s actually learning the words in a fun way. That’s right. She’s genuinely enjoying learning her vocabulary words, and she’s remembering them.
Mnemonics (associating what you are trying to remember with something you already know) has been proven to work by scientists and various studies. I’m thrilled that New Monic Books has taken this technique (using both auditory and visual mnemonics) and applied it in a fun way with Vocabulary Cartoons.
I received a copy of Vocabulary Cartoons as a member of the TOS Crew in return for an honest review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
