Project 365 – #255
While Munchkin has been doing high school work in some subjects for a little while now, this year is the first year where she’ll be doing high school level work in all subject, so she’s **gulp** officially in high school. Yikes! How did that happen? She’s excited, but a little leery of the extra work that comes along with doing high school level work in all courses. It has been fun planning some of the classes for this year because I’m starting to have the opportunity to really tailor her learning to her passions/interests due to having completed many of the “required” math and science classes.
Obviously, since we home school year around, we don’t have official start and end dates for our school year. We just let classes flow from one to another. Even though I know it would drive some people nuts, it works well for us. We have freedom to take off school as we see fit and still get the number of school days required by many states. (Arizona does not have an attendence requirement, but we try to keep basic records since we never know where we’ll be stationed next. Homeschool laws vary greatly from state to state, and as military members, we follow the state laws of the state in which we currently reside.)
Our plans for the year include the following, but they’re always subject to change…
Math:
- Complete Geometry – Teaching Textbooks
- Start Accounting once geometry is completed (haven’t decided which program we’ll be using yet)
- Renewable Energy Study – a study that I’ve put together using internet resources and a plethora of hands-on activities, roughly based upon college level physics class
- Analytical Grammar
- Institute for Excellence in Writing
- Literature Study
- Complete New Testament Survey – Grapevine Studies
- Continue Apologetics Study
- Complete Mystery of History Volume 1
- Start Mystery of History Volume 2, once MOH1 is completed
- Use Mystery of History notebooking pages
- Continue Photography Course
- Marketing – Professor in a Box
- Latin – Visual Latin
- Since we’re on the TOS Crew, we’ll be adding various review items to our studies. Some of those review items (Latin and Marketing) have been built into our regular schooling schedule.
- We plan on being involved in Keepers at Home which will count as home economics.
- P.E. & Health will be added, but I still need to work out the details on those classes.
- Munchkin will be slowly working her way through the SAT Prep course.
Just wanted to stop by and say I’m enjoying your blog. I came from a Christian homeschooling family and it’s a wonderful way of life. I love your photography! I’m very interested in photography and am trying to teach myself some basics (as well as pray in a DSLR) and I love looking at other people’s pictures.

Congrats on reaching highschool! We have a ways to go (pre-k, 1st, and 3rd). This is our first year of homeschooling and we are excited. I noticed the planner in your photo. . .I have the same one. It’s great, isn’t it??

We “officially” started high school this year too! It’s been interesting, but we’re getting there. He’s a bit stressed as we’re having to be more structured, but he’s also being more independant which will be good for college. Enjoyed your post! April

Yes, she plans on heading to college. The schedule looks tough, but it’s not too bad. She still has plenty of time to play which is important to her. 😉 On most days, it takes her less than 3 hours to complete her schoolwork. Not all classes are done every day which helps keep things manageable. 🙂

I realize this is a super old post, but you have a link to Notebooking pages for MOH, but the link doesn’t work. I keep seeing your website pop up on pinterest as a resource for MOH pages, but I can’t seem to find them, I’ve subscribed =). I’m guessing you’ve removed them from your blog.
